Firstly if you reading this hoping to get BBM running on your droid ! Am sorry :( . This blog will just give you alternatives for the poor souls in dufai , I mean Dubai.
I am sickened by the BB craze here in Dubai thanks to the service providers smart 50 Dhs package deal.You get unlimited BBM , Gtalk & FB I think for a whole month ?BUT the problem is nothing else can be used like whatsapp or pingchat. This offer is being used by literally all my friends except a few strong willed people who haven't yet fallen for peer pressure! What I don't understand is BBM is just a simple messaging service there are way better options like whatsapp , pingchat and a million others offering the same service but supporting cross platforms in the sense u can use these on a Droid , Iphone , BB , Nokia etc which is definitely beneficial for all. You dont have to stick to a BB and free to choose a wide range of much more powerful phones for less than a BB's price. Not to mention the amount of apps supported by Iphone and Android its definitely a better deal . Imagine you being able to play Splinter cell on your droid secretly at your work place. BB simply doesn't match up. Oh then being Dubai I do see people with the dough walking around with a BB and another phone of their choice! And I wonder damn! BBM definitely has captured the market!Simply for the sake of messaging!
As a True droid fan! I want to break this! Diversity is Nature's requirement . In a field of flowers you don't see just red flowers! Its a whole lot of different colors! Diversity is the result of true individuality!Oh well I can go on about this but lets get to the part were we can do something about this.
So now all your buddies got BBM . The 50 AED thing doesn't support email , whatsapp , pingchat etc! What a load of crap! I mean really its just pure money making by the telecom people.So nvm my emotions to this whole issue. Now Du has a data package for 20 AED to give you 40 MB ! Now generally the data service here is pretty expensive. That's the problem when companies monopolize with hardly anyone to truly compete. So question is 40 MB is good enough to get your Gtalk running for a whole month so you can get talking to ur BBM buddies? Well yes!! But a stock phone would need a bit of rigging. In the sense your stock phone goes haywire when a net connection is established! So your 40 Mb might get drained in less than a week's time. So what you need is a Firewall! to make sure only your Gtalk and if required your email is given access! Brilliant huh ? But its not the end of the story ! You will need "superuser access" to get a firewall running! Or what in Android terms is called "Rooting" . Well simply head over to "xda-developers.com" lookup your phone there to find out how to get it rooted! Else simply leave a comment below so I can lead you to the respective links. Ones rooted , Firewall - ed your good to go ! Oh you can even use your whatsapp! :D .
